Slice, Dice & Rice Crack I haven’t played Bushido Blade. To me, the simplicity of the mechanics of Slice Dice and Rice, honored by razor-sharp sharp deadly mind games where each hit kills, reminds me more of Divekick than most things, but much less spastic and more thought provoking than Divekick. The basic attack stream is clear. Lots of parry and strike cancellation, lots of really responsive options, all of which interact and make sense, by some clear and obvious rules quite well. (A step up from For Honor’s magical guard break, I love that game, but come on …)
No online MP, but I enjoy AI. It gives me a workout, and the stories are decent enough. Nice Mortal Kombat-style ham, and some cool boss characters along the way. I get my money’s worth just from vs AI, I think.
Slice, Dice & Rice Torrent I’ve only messed with three of the eight or so characters and I’m enjoying the game so far. Good fun. I’ve only made the first story feature of eight, but I feel it solidifies the strengths of this game. It’s far more accessible than typical fighting games, while offering the same excitement. One hit killer means a single foul can ruin a fight, but it also means you can finish your opponents in seconds. The controls are simple and intuitive, and when battles last more than a few strikes, the exchanges that result can be cinematic. Each character has their own fighting style that you have to utilize to win.
8/10, just wish it had online. I like this one. I’m a sucker for all samurai and I loved the Bushido Blade – it’s a shame there are no more games like it – and this one is pretty close to a 2d version. While I would not recommend buying the full price, it is still good and there is – despite the small amount of content – something fun to be had, especially if you are playing it with a friend. The art style is unique – it reminds me of suda games, and the sound design is okay. The story doesn’t take itself seriously and isn’t that bad. I like it
Slice Dice & Rice is an indie fighting game with no health bars. Inspired by Bushido Blade, it revolves around the idea of finding an opening in opponents defense and ending the round with a single, clean hit. Gone are the tedious hit points – each scrach impairs your movement, every wound might be your last.
